Study abroad levels: Toward a classification of program types

This article proposes a framework of classification of Study Abroad programme types. Programmes are divided into 5 categories (from Study Tour to Cross-cultural Immersion Programme). Each category is then subdivided into programme componets (duration, housing, orientation etc.). According to the author, applying this classification would help support HEI in designing their programmes. I would also help programme participants to have clearer expectations and better prepare for the programme abroad. This classification would imply a ranking system between programmes.
